General's Update - 06/09/2010

E-mail Print PDF

Hello to all the Minotaur family,

As the dust is settling and teams are winning or still competing to win their respective championships. I would like to inform you of last weekend's results and happenings.

Firstly, the trophy presentation day/night was a great success. It was very rewarding to see the smiling faces of all the little Minotavrakia receiving their trophies, medals and polo shirts at our club Kingsgrove RSL. The day BBQ was a great success and God (who is Cretan) stop the rain for long enough for all of us to enjoy the day. It was great to see all the little kids promise to return next year, remembering that the beginning of the new season 2011 and registration day is ALWAYS the first Tuesday in February at 6pm at Beverly Hills Park. See you then!!

In the evening, we had the sit down dinner for the representative youth teams (U13s to U18s), the senior squad (1st grade and reserve grade) and the old codgers (Over 35s). This was also a great evening with all the youth players receiving their trophies and the U14s youth being voted as the representative team for 2010 - Congratulations to Rob Seib and the boys. This being the award night for the senior squad, the prestigious award winners were announced as follows:

The Player of the Year award for first grade went to the popular player Michael Di Meglio who as we all know finished as the top scorer in our first grade and also in the whole State League Division 2. He will win the Golden Boot award at the Football NSW Awards evening as well as being a short favourite to win the Football NSW Division 2 Player of the Year.

Following Michael, the Player of the Year in reserve grade was Steve Takopoulos who also had a good season and is knocking on the door for inclusion into the first grade squad.

The Most Improved Player for season 2010 was awarded to Alex Obeid who came from association level football but through hard work and the perfect attitude this player progressed through the reserve grade and finished up being an important player for first grade leading up and into the championship series.

The most prestigious award of the season for our club is the Clubperson of the Year award and this could not be split therefore it was awarded jointly to Foti and Maria Tzavellas for all the time and effort they have given to our club and we thank them very much for that.

We also took this opportunity to acknowledge and thank our sponsors for the season, namely Kingsgrove RSL, Harrington's Pharmacy Penshurst, Paramount Real Estate Penshurst, Econo-Heat, McDonald's Australia and Toyota-Lexus. We would also like thank the Mayor and the Board of Hurstville City Council and the President and the Board of Football NSW (as well as the Head of Competitions our friend Bill Kostandas).

As far as the results of our teams in finals go, the 9As grand final between Hurstville City Minotaurs and Arncliffe Scots was a great game to watch and the large number of supporters saw some champions of the future. Both teams played very well and it was a shame that there had to be a loser. The game finished 0-0 at fullt time and went into extra time which saw the Arncliffe Scots win the cup. Congratulations to our coach George Dimakos, all the boys and the parents.

On the same day our all age mens team won their grand final against Rockdale Raiders 3-0 with Keiran Chippo scoring 2 goals and Andrew Majcher the other. And as far as I know, they are still celebrating (drinking) their win.

On Sunday afternoon, we all went to see our senior squad (first grade and reserve grade) play in their respective semi finals at a windy Knight Park in Yennora. At 12.30 our reserve grade did battle with Belmore Hercules who were strengthened by the addition by 5 or 6 first graders. It was an even game which finished 2-2 after 90 minutes with all goals scored in the first half. Goals for the Minotaurs were scored by Alex Obeid and Haisan Morhi. the game went into extra time with no further goals added so they needed penalties to determine the winner with Hurstville City Minotaurs winning 4-2.

At 3pm, the first grade team strengthened by some heroes who had already played 120 minutes in the reserve grade game faced the minor premiers Fairfield Bulls. This was also a very good and tense game with two evenly matched teams. Minotaurs controlled the match and had the better chances, but due to a refereeing mistake (God punished him later by giving him an injury and being replaced) Fairfield scored against the run of play midway through the first half. Sadly before half time Michael Di Meglio strained his hamstring and at half time had to be replaced. This did not stop the Minotaur machine to operate successfully and before the end of the game Nick Goumis even the score to send the game into extra time and sent happiness to all the black and white supporters who by now had multiplied by the addition of our brother club Belmore Hercules (and we thank them for that). In extra time our defence fell asleep for a split second enough to allow the enemy to sneak in a goal. But in true Minotaur spirit we fought to the end achieving the equaliser again with Nick Goumis which sent the match into a penalty shootout. This time we were no so lucky and lost 4-2. We must now play next Sunday at Belmore Sports Ground at 3pm against Luddenham for the right to claim the second spot in the Grand Final. The reserve grade team will also play on the same day for the right to play in their grand final at 12.30pm at the same ground against Fairfield Wanderers.

Til the next update, love you all.

Hello to all the Minotaur family!

I can see a lot of happy faces out there!  6 wins out of 8 matches, that is not a bad result !!!

Starting on Saturday, our U/9A's won 1 - 0 and won a spot into the grand final. Congratulations to the coach - George Dimakos, players and parents.

On the same day our U/9c's were unlucky to lose in the major semi final, but they get another chance this Saturday vs Connells Point to get a grand final spot (check here later on in the week for venue and time).

Also on Saturday our AAF Men's won the right to play in the grand final in two weeks (stay tuned for venue and times). Congratulations to Lars, Kieran and the boys and good luck in the grand final.

On Sunday our U/14 Rep team won their major semi vs Nowra 1 - 0 and will now play Mt. Druitt for the right to gain a grand final spot. Well done to the coach - Rob Seib, the manager - Chris Leech and the boys.

In the other semi final our U/16's without their injured captain and sweeper managed to beat Springwood and progress towards winning the cup, as they did last year. Let's hope that Ryan will recover from his injury and will be able to help his team to progress further. Well done George Koimanis, players and everybody else involved in helping our team.

Our state league teams First and Reserves had to go to Bathurst on Sunday to secure and improve our semi finals positions. Our 1st grade won 4 - 0 and our Reserve grade won 3 - 0. So next Sunday both teams will compete in major semis. Well done General and all the boys. As well as the good team results we also managed to have our striker - Michael Di Meglio win the golden boot for scoring the most goals (18) in the whole competition.

The only casualty this Sunday was the loss and elimination of our O/35B's.

In closing I would like to remind everyone of the Trophy Presentation Day / Night of Hurstville City Minotaurs S. C..

It is Saturday, 4th September 2010, at our club - Kingsgrove RSL. The association teams (U/6's, U/7's, U/8's and U/9's) will have a BBQ starting at 12.00 p.m. later on all the players will receive their medal, their trophy and their polo shirt. Mums and Dads bring your cameras to capture this memorable day.  Our youth teams, our senior teams and our O/35's will have a sit-down dinner at the club starting at 7.00 p.m..

Till the next time keep on winning!

General's Update - 16/8/2010

Hello to all the Minotaur Family (young and old),

HURSTVILLE CITY MINOTAURS YOUTH HAVE SECURED A HOME GROUND FOR NEXT SEASON 2011.

Last weekend (Sat and Sun 14-15th August) we had some important results. Some teams have already started semi finals, some teams played the last round and some teams have one round remaining this weekend.

Starting from the little Minotavrakia (6s, 7s and 8s), next Saturday is the last match of the season. I know you all had a good time and we hope you come back next year. Most importantly, remember Saturday 4th September as this is the trophy presentation day at our club Kingsgrove RSL. There will be a BBQ starting at 12pm followed by trophy and polo shirt presentation. Each and every player will receive a trophy so make sure you allow yourself time for this very important day of the season. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all the players, parents, sponsors, coaches and managers.

Both our U/9A's and U/9C's are about to do battle in the up-coming semi finals - Congratulations and good luck to all players, coaches - George D., Angelo K. - and managers. Thank you to all the parents for their support. Stay tuned as we will update you on the date, time and venue on our website later this week.

The BIG NEWS last Saturday was the GREAT WIN of our U/13's youth team who THRASHED Springwood U13's 1 - 0 .

Whilst we are on the topic of youth teams I am happy to acknowledge the successful year so far of our U/14's and our U/16's. Both the U/14's and U/16's will do battle next Sunday at Valentine Park (Parklea) at 10.15 a.m. and 1.15 p.m. respectively. Congratulations and good luck to Rob and his boys and George and his boys. Every member of the Minotaur family is invited to make the trip to Parklea and support our little warriors.

In the seniors we have several teams in the semi-finals.

Our AAF's finished first on the ladder and have had a very good season. In the next few days we will inform you on this page, the time and venue of their semi-final match. Good luck to Lars, Kieran and the rest of boys.

Our O/35B's will play this Sunday against Lugarno for a spot in the grand final. Again good luck to Foti and all his boys. By the way, lads remember that football is a team game, so don't be afraid to pass the ball!

The 1st and Reserve Grade are travelling to Bathurst on Sunday for the last competition game. The 1st Grade has already secured a semi-final spot but with a win could improve their position on the ladder (2nd or 3rd). The Reserve Grade must win on Sunday to secure a semi-final spot. Important to know that our striker Michael Di Meglio is on top of the goal scoring list with 16 goals - 2 more than the second player.

At this point I want to remind everyone about the trophy presentation evening for our Youth teams, O/35's and our state league squad (1st and Reserve Grade).

Date:- Saturday, 4th September 2010

Venue:- Kingsgrove RSL, Brocklehurst Lane Kingsgrove

Time:- 7.00 p.m.

On this night we will find out the Player of the Year 1st Grade, the Player of the Year 2nd Grade, the Most Improved player AND the Club Person of the year AND much more. Too many to announce here and now. But I am happy to announce that Hurstville City Council have officially stated that we will have the use of Beverly Hills Park for our youth home games. This guarantees us participation in next year's FNSW Division One Youth League Competition. We have of course a lot of work to do to upgrade our park in order to satisfy the criteria for Division One Youth Grounds.

Until the next update look after yourselves and on behalf of the President and the Board of Hurstville City Minotaurs S.C. I would like to wish all our teams success in the upcoming semi-finals.

Hello to all the minotaur family,

What a great annual ball we had last Saturday, 31st July, at The Grand Roxy.

Thank you to all who supported the club and made this evening a great success and bad luck to those who did not turn up.

The food was great, the grog was plentifull and the service as always perfect!  Adam Scicluna, the singer/commedian, had everybody in stiches.

Overall, it was a great night!

All the U/6's, U/7's and U/8's are playing the last matches of the year on Saturday, 21st August 2010.

The next important function date is Saturday, 4th September 2010, at our club - the Kingsgrove RSL.

On this day we will hold our trophy presentation - in 2 sections.

The best performed Youth teams this year have been our U/14's and our U/16's.  Congratulations and good luck to all the players, the coaches - Rob Seib and George Koimanis respectivelly and the managers - Chris and Con - And of course all the other assistants and all the parents.

I would like to take this opportunity to invite all members of the Minotaur family to the upcoming semi finals which start next Saturday, 21st August, to show your support for our kids.

Our senior squad (both 1st and Reserve Grades) are in the semi finals which will start in 2 weeks. These teams have had a season of ups and downs, but I would like to think that we will finish the season on a high - Time will tell.

Important to note that our striker - Michael Di Meglio - is contesting the top scorer award for the season.

Last Sunday 2 of our 1st Graders namely Nick Kambounias and Kyriako Phylactou had serious injuries - We wish them a speedy recovery.

I would like to take this opportunity to ask for the "expression of interests" for youth coaching positions.

Hello to all Minotaur supporters,

After our two successful wins over the top two sides Luddenham (2-0) and Roosters (3-1), we are back on track towards winning the premiership and promotion to NSW 1st Division in 2011.

It is important to win the next two matches versus Springwood and Hawkesbury which are both at our home Belmore Sports Ground. Wins in these matches, I believe, will put us back on top of the ladder.

It is pleasing to see Michael Di Meglio score in successive matches which now puts him on eight goals for the season and just one goal behind the league's top scorers. Captain Terry Sideratos has also returned to form by slotting back to his usual position of sweeper after an unsuccessful attempt of reliving his past glory days of playing striker (keep dreaming Terry).

Due to the unavailability of some senior players, we have had to call on the services of some of the younger brigade who have stepped up admirably thus helping to stop the rot of four consecutive losses and recording one draw and two wins in our last 3 matches versus strong opposition.

Our reserve grade team also had an impressive win against the Roosters 4-2 which keeps them in the top 5 (for now).

A quick look at our youth teams (13s to 18s reps) shows us that at the moment we have three teams contesting semi final spots. These are our surprise packet for this year, Robert Seib's U14s, George Koimanis' U16s and Nick Andreou's U18s.

Not forgetting the old codgers, our Over 35 Bs with Foti Tzavellas and the General and every other player/coach have just beaten the league leaders Forrest Rangers on the weekend and are heading towards going one better than last year and collecting some silverware.

On a more important note, I would like to remind and invite all members of the Minotaur family that our Annual Ball for 2010 is on Saturday, 31st July at 7.00pm at The Grand Roxy (128 The Grand Parade, Brighton-Le-Sands). After last year's brilliant performance from the Brazilian dancers, we have gone one better and secured one of the best comedians in the country. The one and only Adam Scicluna. This entertainment line up combined with the great service from The Grand Roxy guarantees a great evening. Please see your coach/manager or contact me for tickets remembering that your company can sponsor a table on the night. So get your parea (group) ready and contribute in making this night a big success.

Nick Andreou, as per your request, I have reserved a table for last year's (and next year's) ladies team.

Last Monday, the executive committee met and discussed several very important issues concerning our club. The most important item on the agenda was the discussion regarding the securing of a ground for our youth teams for the 2011 season. We feel confident that the promise of Hurstville City Council assisting our club and believe a successful solution will be achieved. We will keep you updated with any progress on this matter via this official website.

We are pleased to have launched a new website with the assistance of Nick Kambounias and Nick Drimousis from MLM Sports Clubs and from now on there will be more frequent updates on this site. SO STAY TUNED!!!
